2d Art - Concepts and Silos

Concepts and Silos
Team: Vampyres in Space

We referenced the art of H.R. Gigor and the Scorn video game.
I've posted images for the Environment and spaceship to our Pinterest page for some ideas https://www.pinterest.com/afriendlyowl/vampyres-in-space/environment-spaceship/

I've created an Environment Mood board, displaying the shape language that we're going for with Gigor's darker tones, mysterious and foggy settings that are created. Along with sharp, realistic lines.

I created the following silohuettes that translate some of the shape language from the exterior environment in this world, along with some ideas for the spaceships.

3D - Art - Week 10

Creating a Medium Complexity Character

and...
Rock Set 01

Modeling my first set of four rocks in Maya, referencing the arid desert.

First, I started with the large rock.
Next, my medium size rock.

Changed my mind...I decided to do the adorable starfish after all.

Set up my image plane and Duplicated special.

Created the model for the starfish and then UV'd it.

Sculpted the model in ZBrush, then Subdivided to increase resolution.

3D Art - Fish Project

Fish Modeling and Sculpting

From creating low Polys and UV'ing in Maya...

Bringing it into ZBrush for the Hi Poly and sculpt...

Then into Substance Painter for the texture...

And finally into Unreal with the Mesh, Materials and blueprints.

2D Art - Week 9

Developed Environment

"The Scarlett Letter"

I tried to capture an old 18th century feel in Boston, with a hint of mystery and eeriness. At a distance, at the end of the one point perspective, is the town hanging device.

I believe Pearl will fit right into the scene.

3D Art - Week 8

Exporting Substance Painter Maps into UE4

First, I exported the fbx model from Maya into Substance Painter, and then exported the Map output with all the textures. Then set up folders in UE4 for Materials, Textures and Meshes.

Then, imported the textures Targa files into the Textures folder in Unreal. Then within the mesh Blueprints, dragged those textures to make changes that will match the cannon's look.

Then created a Material Instance to alter more of the lighting effects. Once it was updated in the world mesh, here is the result.

3D Art - Week 7

Bake Maps and Digital Painting

First, I added more polys in Maya and exported out separate obj's for Zbrush. Then, imported as polygroups in Zbrush and increased resolution. This is the new cannon BPR model:

The next step was to bring it into Substance Painter and bake the model. Then, started with the "IronPure" material.

I was going for a rusted cannon look, so I then brushed different tones of orange color in layers, and increased "Rust" slider, along with the "height".

I added an "Organic Spread" particle, and brushed it on with different shades of green in layers to create a moss growth.

Since I was going for an underwater cannon, I exported a Targa file from the Rendered cannon and then changed the background in Photoshop. I added shadows, then a Color Overlay over the cannon and altered effects on the cannon layer.

2D Art - Week 7

Character and Environment

“The Scarlet Letter”- by Nathaniel Hawthorne

I will be focusing in on the character Pearl. She was the daughter of Hester who was ostracized from their town because of an affair she had with the town minister. In the end of the story, Hester and Pearl eventually leave Boston, but no one knows what happened to them. Many years later, for some odd reason Hester returns alone to live in this town to do charitable work.

In my re-direction, Pearl will be grown up, probably around the age of 17, who’s frankly had enough and becomes an undercover heroine. She defends her mother from the people of this town and any evil they may cause amongst the citizens. There will be a corrupt and well-to-do oppresive villain who dominates the people of the town. Pearl will be fighting to take this evil man down along with anyone who oppresses the people.

I'll be implementing an illustrative realistic look in my shape language, similar to Zelda's "Twilight Princess", in which the characters still have strong lines.

2D Art - Week 6

Lighting Sources

I've included 3 light sources in this original shot. The strongest light is from the top, the side is a bit more distant and also the ambient lighting from the room.

I started with the face and form...
Created paths to separate sections of the figure, to draw through and affect gradations and value.
Added a background to insinuate a city block and maintained the integrity of the shadows from the original shot.

3D Art - Week 6

Creating UVs and Digital Sculpting

Started with the wireframe Canon. Then added polys to help maintain the frame when is soft mesh view.

Created UVs for the canon in the UV Editor.
Brought it into ZBrush and then created a texture in Photoshop. Then brought it in as an Alpha and applied it to the canon; along with using other brushes to manipulate a rusted aged, underwater look.

Final canon, then applied decimation.
